by Ilaria Salerno and Susanna Giusto, plus a note from the Montecarlotimes’ publisher Ilio Masprone, Knight of the Principality of Monaco for cultural merits: “Throughout this article I am suggesting music fans to attend two events at first sight extremely different: “Les Plages Electoniques Beach Festival” in Cannes – Cote d’Azur – France and the 2nd revival of the Neapolitan Song Festival “SanremocantaNapoli” in the close to Monaco city of Sanremo, West Liguria – Italy. I wish to say openly that these two events are not two detached worlds, as they are two worlds bound by the same feeling: emotion. While a modern electronic music listener may not be aware of the sonic echoes that resonated in the past and say: “Neapolitan music is boring; it is the past” he forgets that pop music has always acknowledged a great harmonic and melodic debt to its older across the centuries!”
So, save the dates 9-11 August and 24-28 September in your bucket list!

The Competition Festival “SanremoCantaNapoli” is looking for new sounds and new texts, but also scout some beautiful Neapolitan voices worth to get out of the regional boundaries, talents who otherwise risk being left in a purely regional context. On the contrary, we hope that for many of them this Festival Competition in Sanremo will remain not only a point of arrival, but also the start of a professional career of high national and international level. The Prizes: three scholarships of 1,000.00€ each to the three winners of equal merit, artistic works of the goldsmith Michele Affidato and beautiful paintings due to the international painter Gino Borlandi.
The Neapolitan Festival, never before organized in Italy, was born in Sanremo in 1932; carried on successfully until 1934, it was then revived twenty years later in Naples in 1954. But the formula of a few days competition did not suit Naples, whose unforgettable songs had always achieved success in the streets of the city to spread in the world since the early twentieth century. When in the seventies the national record market impacted with foreign music, it began to ignore the Neapolitan production. Italian singers had to learn English and Spanish to outbreak the international record markets.
Instead, in today’s global era the SanremoCantaNapoli Competition Festival wishes to continue researching and experimenting, conveying the language and style of two undisputed music capitals such as Sanremo and Naples worldwide.
