by Maria Sole Ferrero MONACO. The next edition of the Monegasque festival, presided by H.R.H. Caroline Princess of Monaco and Hanover, is scheduled from March 16 to April 29, 2018. The Festival will be punctuated by highlights, composed of 26 concerts with 9 themes. First of all, a less known Mozart; American music by Charles Ives and Morton Feldman; the Monaco Music Forum; a surprise trip; a mix with a vein of crazy music with rare instruments, jugglers and fanfare, the presence of talented youngsters, and promising soloists; the songs of troubadours, poets and extraordinary musicians, cherished in all the castles in the 13th century; the clarinet in all its forms; the opera with a window on Russian surrealism, “Four girls” by Edison Denisov, a concert version “première” in Monaco and France; four performances of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo with the music of Bruno Mantovani in a new choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot; international orchestras and artists, such as the National Orchestra of France, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Age of Enlightenment Orchestra, the Zemlinsky Quartet, the sweet and magnificent voices of the Latvian Radio Choir, the conductor Christian Arming, the mezzo-soprano Isabelle Druet with the pianist Bertrand Chamayou, the most popular lyrical voice in contemporary music, the Italian soprano Alda Caiello, and the Ensemble Micrologus specialized in contemporary music.
Like a matryoshka, the festival opens different levels of pleasure and listening. Thus, in addition to the main themes, you will appreciate the “Sequences” of Luciano Berio, one of the postwar greatest composers, a cycle of 14 pieces of acrobatic virtuosity, where you will discover new direction’s techniques and unexplored expression of different instruments. The French composer Eric Montalbetti, little known to the general public, will have a prominent place in the contemporary world, with a première called “Physionomic Eclair”, commissioned by the Printemps des Arts. On the other hand, there will be famous classical pages by Brahms and Debussy, who will mark the program alongside contemporaries Morton Feldman, Leonard Bernstein, Olivier Messiaen and the composer-in-resident Yan Maresz. “The Printemps des Arts – explains the director Marc Monnet – is a panorama of music, styles, eras and different audiences, but it is also the result of a work that invests on young people, the public of the future. I think that the responsibility of a festival is to present young artists, repertoires and authors still little known, and exploring the so-called “classical” music to show that it is not at all, listening to it through new formulas, involving artists who like to run the risk and think outside the box”. The year 2018 confirms again the vocation of the event in Monaco to be a joyous and fruitful celebration of music and arts, an exciting journey through the places and the music which are revealed little by little through a recipe that combines modernity and tradition, and focused on the pleasure of listening. But not only: the Printemps des Arts is also important for the cycle of 3 round tables and 7 lectures that accompany and guide the audience to a correct use of the performances. In addition, the Printemps des Arts is present with its web radio, which broadcasts interviews and concerts of the 2018 programming.
