3 July – 29 August 2021 – GRIMALDI FORUM – ALBERTO GIACOMETTI EXHIBITION – LE REEL MERVEILLEUX – A RETROSPECTIVE – The Giacometti Foundation joins forces with the Grimaldi Forum to present, for the first time in Monaco in the summer of 2021, an exceptional retrospective of the work of the sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti, the most important of recent years, placed under the office of Émilie Bouvard, Scientific and Collections Director of the Foundation. This journey into Alberto Giacometti’s creation will take place in the name of wonder. Facing the “wonderful” reality, as he often says, he tries to represent what he sees around him, without hierarchies: loved ones, objects in his studio, everyday things, the landscapes of Parisian suburbs. The scenography of the exhibition, the richness of the works presented will in turn amaze the viewer placed at the center of the artist’s intimacy. The exhibition will focus on all eras, all media, sculptures (plaster casts, bronzes), paintings, drawings, prints, which Giacometti has used. It will allow a complete vision of his creation, from the first works to the surrealist period, from the return to figuration to his post-model work, and to the invention of the great post-war icons. Bringing together nearly 230 works accompanied by photographs, this masterpiece-studded exhibition will offer visitors marvelous discoveries around 14 original sequences. The path will restore the spirit of the workshop by revealing the deviations and questions that mark the creative process of Alberto Giacometti. The artist’s favorite themes stand out in particular – the representation of the head, the face, the female body – but you will also discover his relationship with loneliness, melancholy, and the hard work with his models: his wife Annette, his brother Diego, his close friends. The visitor will thus meet another Giacometti, the one who experiences the limits of sculpture, and the formidable painter who also practices, alongside the portrait, the genres of landscape or still life. Practical information: Registration open for guided tours every Thursday and Sunday at 10:30 – 14:30 – 17:00 until exhaustion (20 people per visit) Open every day from 10.00 to 20.00 – Night on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 22.00. 15 – 24 July 2021 at 7 pm – GRIMALDI FORUM – BALLETS DE MONTE-CARLO – L’ÉTÉ DANSE – July, 15, 16 et 17 – 7.00 pm – 2 creations: Tsunagu – Mimoza Koike and Le Temps du Tendre – Julien Guerin – Salle Prince Pierre – July, 22, 23 et 24 – 7.00 pm – 2 pieces: In Memoriam – Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Core Meu – Jean-Christophe Maillot – Salle des Princes – For this 2021 edition of “L’Été Danse!” Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo are offering two series of shows which will bring home to us the extent to which dance is a living art. To begin with, from 15 to 17 July, the company will perform two creations imagined by Mimoza Koike and Julien Guérin, both from Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. After a period when choreographic art has been thwarted, support for creation has taken on an even greater importance. For more than thirty years, Jean-Christophe Maillot has pursued a policy aiming to help talent emerge, and here he has given carte blanche to these young choreographers whose sensitive world cannot but question our relationship to the current world. From 22 to 24 July, the dancers of the company will take us to the shores of the Mediterranean, accompanied on stage by musicians who carry this southern identity in their heart of hearts. Two pieces will invite us on a journey. The first, In Memoriam by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui was created in 2004 for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo (two years earlier, this young Belgian choreographer of Moroccan origin received the Nijinsky Award for Emerging Choreographers at the Monaco Dance Forum, a prize which contributed to launching his career). The A Filetta group which embodies the excellence of Corsican song will lend its voices to the dancers’ movements. The second piece will be Core Meu by Jean-Christophe Maillot. Acclaimed by audiences which burn to join the dancers at every performance, the ballet will be another chance to hear live Antonio Castrignano who has given a new face to the Tarentella of Puglia.Through these two highlights, a summer breeze from Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will celebrate the grand return of live shows.
July 16, 2021 – PLACE DU CASINO – THE SUMMER CONCERT OF THE CROIX-ROUGE MONEGASQUE – JAMIE CULLUM – AN EVENING OPEN TO ALL! – This first Summer Concert of the Monegasque Red Cross with pop jazz singer Jamie Cullum on the Place du Casino in the presence of S.A.S. Prince Albert II, President of the Monegasque Red Cross, will certainly make an era. The Place du Casino has rediscovered its architecture, as it was conceived in the 19th century to give back the myth to pedestrians, and it will host the very first major public event to support the initiatives of the Monegasque Red Cross and celebrate the end of the emergency. After the 71st edition of the Monegasque Red Cross Gala in 2019, and the interruption in 2020 following the Covid 19 pandemic, this summer concert marks an important stage in the very conception of this rendezvous awaited every year for benefactors as well as for the public. An unprecedented format, at the end of a particular year, an open-air event in the heart of the Principality, on the new Place du Casino inaugurated just a year ago to welcome the most beautiful events: the Monegasque Red Cross. To celebrate the body founded in 1948 by Prince Louis II, this evening highlights the daily actions bestowing the most vulnerable people over the course of 73 years of activity. It is intended as a warm tribute to the benefactors of the Monegasque Red Cross, whose generosity has made it possible to prevent and mitigate the suffering of people in need. The Monegasque Red Cross aims to save lives and prepare the population for natural disasters, and to support all people in need without discrimination, as well as to carry out humanitarian awareness and prevention actions. The body acts both nationally and internationally. Ruled and guided by the deep convictions of HSH Prince Albert II, its President, the association has never ceased to evolve, invariably supporting, and accompanying people in need.
Aware of the changing environment, the Monegasque Red Cross is constantly innovating, finding the most suitable solutions to the needs of the population. Although it operates on a small territory, the Monegasque Red Cross has an especially important place among the national organizations of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. In 2020, over 4,354,000 euros were used to carry out its initiatives in Munich and around the world. The body intervenes at an international level by supporting the projects of other Red Cross and Red Crescent agencies that must deal with increasingly complex humanitarian crises. It pays particular attention to isolated and vulnerable people in the Principality, stimulating the commitment of all, and especially that of the youngest. The year that has just ended has been marked by two main crises: the coronavirus pandemic, which has had a strong impact on our habits and our activities, and the storm Alex, which has hit the valleys around Monaco hard. In just a few days, the Monegasque Red Cross was able to adapt and reorganize itself to constitute a single and consolidated force in the fight against Covid 19. In 2020, 530 volunteer members totalled 57,000 hours of action to be as close as possible to the population. The Monegasque Red Cross then resumed its normal activities according to the usual rhythm, reintegrating its activities (clothing, first aid posts, interventions and activities aimed at the youngest …) with the precise will to carry out its mission of general interest with the utmost effectiveness, developing new initiatives in the sectors that belong to it. For the first Munich Red Cross Summer Concert, the Monegasque Red Cross is particularly proud of Jamie Cullum this year. The British jazz-pop artist, pianist and singer boasts eight studio albums to his credit. Moreover, it must be said that his passions are of a completely different nature, namely cinematographic: the fact is that, after brilliant studies in the field of cinema and literature, he finally made his debut in the world of song. Five years after the release of his first album, he finally dedicated himself to his original passion by participating in the original soundtrack of the Bridget Jones film “The Edge of Reason” interpreting the song “Everlasting Love”. After being awarded several times, Jamie Cullum had another chance in 2008, signing the ballad “Gran Torino”, composed specifically for Clint Eastwood’s film of the same name. Artist emeritus, Jamie Cullum’s days are more than ever full of commitments, but he still managed to reconcile everything, offering to tread the scene of the Summer Concert of the Monegasque Red Cross, on the Place du Casino. An evening open to all! The benefactors of the Monegasque Red Cross will be received on the new terrace Café de Paris, and then reach the Place du Casino, whose palm trees and fountains will be masterfully moved, by virtue of technical means specially conceived to be able to mount the scenes of historical concerts. Traditionally, the works of art specially created on the theme of the Red Cross, will be offered by Laurence Jenkell and Nick Danziger, internationally renowned artists. July and until 19 August 2021 – GRIMALDI FORUM ESPACE INDIGO – EXHIBITION OF JEWELRY BY ARTISTS FROM PICASSO TO KOONS – THE DIANE VENET COLLECTION – Passionate about art, Diane VENET has bought her first artist’s jewel, a brooch by the painter Roy Lichtenstein , in New York in 1967. But it was her meeting with the sculptor Bernard Venet in 1985 that decided to set up, according to the encounters, preferences, and requests to artists, a collection dedicated to artist’s jewels . Diane Venet has gathered, in 30 years, a rich collection of over 230 artist’s jewels of which 180 will be exhibited for a month at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco. From Picasso to Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Keith Haring or even Louise Bourgeois, Orlan, Miguel Chevalier… modern and contemporary, international and French artists will be represented. Who knows what is her favorite jewel of hers in this pantheon? Her jewelry collection is an integral part of her daily life, she never stopped wearing them. But exhibiting them and sharing a passion also makes perfect sense. The exhibition of these miniature masterpieces in international institutions since 2008 places them in the field of art. The jewel recreates the artist’s concerns in a reduced form or even the first idea, the concept, and is a preliminary step to any work. The infinitely small meets the infinitely large. Diane Venet passionately endows each of her jewels with the status of a work of art. Proof of this is the fact that she likes to make “hers” miniatures of her dialogue with the sculptures of renowned artists: André Derain, Max Ernst, Frank Stella, Bernard Venet but here is the intimate gaze and commitment of a woman leading the exhibition. From the love of an artist to that of art, this collection is a tribute to the creation that Diane Venet reveals to us with modesty and talent. The visitor will thus meet another Giacometti, the one who experiences the limits of sculpture, and the formidable painter who practices, alongside the portrait, also the genres of landscape or still life.
