A GLOBAL CHANGE THROUGH THE PEACE AND SPORT INTERNATIONAL FORUM
by G.Errico with Marco Volpato
MONACO. The Press Conference and a welcome cocktail took place Friday November 4 at the Automobile Club de Monaco (Salon des Princes), on invitation of Mr. Joël Bouzou, Founder and Chairman of the Peace and Sport Foundation. Today, Peace and Sport is pleased to invite you to attend the ninth edition of its International Forum, to be held from 23 to 25 November in Monaco. Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Peace and Sport International Forum is a key annual event at the service of sustainable peace through sport. It is a space to promote discussion, forge cooperative relations of long-date and to find better ways to take collective action. This year the theme of this ninth edition is “The game is for peace: the mobilization of global change through sport.” This year over 500 representatives of the world of sports, politics, academia, the private sector and civil society will come together for three days to focus on how sport can help promote sustainable peace and create change agents committed to to act for a better, more just and more united world. Focused of the game theme of peace Mobilizing global Change through sport, the Forum this year comes at a time when the world as a whole has always been so incremental less peaceful: widespread violence and extremist activities threatening to undermine global stability in all spheres of society, with the most innocent sectors are often the most affected. At the same time, geopolitical tensions on a large scale generate forced migration and movement of persons in and out of countries. In this context, human security is a growing concern, closely linked to the growing social inequality, discrimination and exclusion. In this context, this year’s program aims to mobilize action, to use sport as a catalyst in strengthening social ties and networks, and to promote the ideals of peace, non-violence, tolerance and justice. Sport is a powerful and proven means of building peace. The positive results generated by the peace through sport movement show that sport can make a valuable contribution to inspire and motivate the global community to act for peace. In this regard, the 2016 Forum will take a hard look at what works, what is possible, and what major actions are necessary, taking five themes to start the debate: i) Sports Diplomacy, ii) Sports Legacy, iii) gender equity in sport, iv) social integration of refugees, and v) Peace through sport in the digital age.
Exploring practical examples based on these five key themes, delegates will be inspired to enter into long-lasting partnership, find better ways to take collective action, and to set a good example. Peace is a dynamic social phenomenon built on a daily basis that requires a building process by involving and take concrete actions to create conditions for a just and peaceful world. The working languages of the event will be French and English. Simultaneous interpreting will be carried out in these two languages only, and this service will only be provided during the opening ceremony, plenary sessions, a selection of workshops. During the side events, round tables and networking sessions, a limited number of bilingual volunteers will provide translation support where needed.
